The view from the room at Balsa Nueva Lodge, a Costa Rica nature retreat

Stay

Four rooms in the jungle

Perched at one of the highest viewpoints on the Osa Peninsula, Balsa Nueva is an open-air farm hotel set within the jungle. Our three palapas and Jacamar, our wooden cabin, sit among the trees, each with its own balcony looking out over the jungle and patches of ocean.

IN EVERY ROOM

King bed that can become two twins · Private balcony with jungle and ocean views · Rocking chair · Mosquito net · Rechargeable lamps · Filtered water · Breakfast from the farm every morning

THE PALAPAS
Amanecer · Ara Macao · Almendros y Tucanes
Three thatched-roof palapas raised among the trees, open to the sounds of the jungle, each named for something that lives here.

Amanecer (sunrise) has the most open view to the ocean. From your bed, you'll catch the first colors of the day.

Ara Macao, the scarlet macaw, is named for the ones who play in our garden every day. Having them so close is a gift, and a symbol of what this land has become.

Almendros y Tucanes remembers the almond trees we planted when we first arrived, and the toucans who came to feed on them. They still come, so close you can watch them from your room.

$150 per night + 13% tax ($169.50 total) · breakfast for two included

JACAMAR
Our wooden cabin
A little more space and a view over the garden. Jacamar adds a hammock on the balcony and a desk and chair for writing, reading, or simply sitting with your thoughts.
$165 per night + 13% tax ($186.45 total) · breakfast for two included

THE MAIN HOUSE

At the center is the main casa, home to shared sitting areas, a yoga pavilion, and the dining space where meals are prepared and served. This is where mornings begin and evenings come together around food, conversation, and rest.
The rooms sit on a hillside, with outdoor stairs down to the bathrooms. Bathrooms and showers are shared: three in total, two just below the rooms and one in the main house. Simple, clean, cared for every day, and part of a communal way of living.

THE LAND
Balsa Nueva is set within 137 hectares of protected land, bordering Corcovado National Park and part of the Golfo Dulce Reserve. Monkeys move through the trees, birds mark the hours, and trails weave gently through the land. From the highest point, the view opens in both directions: Golfo Dulce on one side, the Pacific on the other.
